VISA INTERVIEW

VISA INTERVIEW

American Consulate has introduced a system of prior appointment for Visa Interview. On the given date, the applicant has to appear for a personal interview. The applicant should convince the visa officer that he / she has the necessary funds to cover the cost of education. The applicant should prove that he / she has strong ties with India and also that he / she is not an intending immigrant. While answering the questions, one should be brief and to the point.

One should not be surprised or angry if the officer is unable to review all the documents that are carried by the applicant. Since officers have very little time for each applicant, they may not be able to look at many or even any documents at times. Therefore one should be prepared to explain one's situation orally and to answer all questions promptly, patiently and confidently.

The applicant will be informed whether he / she has been granted or refused a visa on the same day. The name of the University whose I-20 has been submitted to the consulate, will also be mentioned on the passport. Therefore it is advisable to make the final selection of the University very carefully. If, for some reason, your visa is rejected in the first attempt, you can reapply after 3 working days.

VISA appointment

IF u want to apply for a VISA appointment

GO TO http://www.ttsvisa.com and book the date over there

Notice To Visa Applicants on Suspension of Modification of Visa Appointments: Applicants with existing visa appointments will no longer be able to modify their appointment date or time via the TTS web site. Those applicants wishing to reschedule an appointment must now first cancel their existing appointment and make a new appointment by re-entering all their data through the regular appointment request forms. This step is necessary to prevent misuse of appointments by persons who were making and cancelling bogus appointments for financial gain. This practice has resulted in an unprecedented backlog for appointments and hindered our ability to properly serve legitimate visa applicants. Please be aware that the American consular sections also reserve the right to cancel any appointments that have been procured through unscrupulous means, including by entering incorrect passport numbers in order to book multiple appointments. In Chennai, Calcutta, and New Delhi cancelled appointments will be recaptured and made available to those applicants who qualify for emergency or priority processing. We are also working to implement changes in the appointment processing system that we hope will enable us to further reduce the wait time for appointments and allow us to serve you better.

All students & exchange visitors must visit www.fmjfee.com to read further instructions regarding the mandatory payment of the Sevis fee before arriving for a visa appointment at the consulate. click here for further information.

U.S. VISA-SEEKERS FROM CHENNAI MAY APPLY IN DELHI - In certain limited circumstances the U.S. consular sections in New Delhi accept non-immigrant visa applications from some applicants residing in the Chennai consular district. Delhi will accept out-of-district applications only from persons who speak English fluently, have not previously been refused a visa for any reason, and who can demonstrate need to travel before an appointment is available at the US Consulate General serving their place of residence. The average wait for an appointment at New Delhi is currently 6 weeks. New Delhi will not accept requests from persons in the Chennai consular district seeking appointments earlier than available on this website.
Note: Residents of states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Chattisgarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu must apply for their visas at the American Consulate general located in Mumbai (Bombay). Residents of West Bengal, Orissa, Jharkhand, Bihar, and other states in Eastern India must apply at the American Consulate general in Kolkata (Calcutta). If the Residents of the above-mentioned states apply at the Embassy in New Delhi, their applications may not be processed and may be referred back to the respective American Consulate general in Mumbai or Kolkata.
